Say Hello to Tiny Shiny Tom

My art is a process of recalculating perception. The marriage of photo-referencing and naturally occurring altered states of consciousness that manifest during mental indexing, recollecting or reflecting, is illustrated in a style of painting I call Rotorealism.  More particularly, it focuses on the event horizon of consciousness and sub-consciousness, wherein both dream and real-life memories animate together, creating an interim world of aggregated thought and feeling that exists outside the constraints of the time-space continuum.  It approximates a metacognitive exploration of one’s internal reality as it rotates and relates to one’s external reality, thus Rotorealism.  To illustrate this, I implement acrylic underpainting with oil overlays of deeply saturated colors to underscore my recollection of life experiences as filtered through childhood impressions and memories – a period I view as inherently hopeful and central to my being.

By incorporating a system of stylistic mapping associated with photographic techniques such as multiple exposures, image fusion, soft focus, fragmentation and frame-cropping, I attempt to create a kinetic depiction of life and innocence remembered.
