Beyond the Likeness: Fengshi Jin Portrait Workshop in Sarasota

Li invites you to join internationally acclaimed artist and Professor Fengshi Jin for an intensive 4-day workshop in portrait painting. Employing step-by-step demonstration alongside personalized instruction,  Professor Jin will present extended demonstrations throughout the day, allowing students to methodically and systematically compose their own piece each day.  

Deeply influenced by Russian Realism, Professor Jin has developed a distinguishing style with his brushstrokes, mark making, rhythm, and texture in his artworks. In these 4-day workshop, he will guide you through his unique teaching method that results in portrait work that go ‘beyond the likeness’. 

Professor Jin’s teaching method:

•  Painting both from life models and reference photos in order for student to gain the wholistic understanding of observation, perception, and logic in realism portraiture and beyond. 

• 4 days and 4 paintings from Life models and Reference photos in order for you to become familiar with techniques and allow you to continue after the workshop.

• Painting alongside with him every day, all day in order to observe and follow along.  You will gain insight into his immediate and organic approach in an intimate settings, moving beyond meticulous rendering to capture the essence and vitality of a subject with bold, confident brushwork.
